As a writer and also a sort of addiction-ologist I cannot help but observe and reflect on the division of our nation as it pertains to Michael Jackson. The overarching question seems to be should we revere him or should we condemn him? Was he a Semi-God, or a monster? And the whole climate of confusion, as well as the depth of mourning, harks me back to the age of 9 and the death of Elvis Presley. I can remember foggily asking in those sad days…How could this be?
And I can see that it is a question we are all asking again.
And if you expanded this question it might sound something like this… “How could someone so talented, so gifted, so powerfully able to touch human beings have come to this?” And the very way that we were touched by Elvis Presley and later by Michael Jackson seems to indicate a depth of humanity in both that is starkly contradicted by their behavior.
So how do we reconcile this seeming contradiction? We look here and we look there. We split up and take sides. Demi-God-ers face off with Monster-ites. We argue amongst ourselves. Those who want to deny and forget the monstrosities condemn those who want to deny and forget the greatness of The King of Pop. And the same also happens in reverse.

The stories that surround Michael Jackson’s life have gained much international attention for the last month. Never would one imagine that he would have stolen the hearts of thousands with his music, charm and talent, and would exit this life taking with him the tear drops of millions of people. On June 25, 2009 it was not just Michael Jackson that died, but many people died internally as they saw their music idol laid to rest.
Many criticisms from Anti-Michael activists have made it their obligation to defame, slander and water the image of the King of Pop to another drug addict that went above the law with his money and power. In some popular forums, thousands dish out their hate in three scathing words-’So Long Pedophile’.
It must be pointed out that the intention of this article is not to condone in anyway the questionable conduct of Mr. Jackson, but to point out one thing that was overlooked throughout these years prior to his comeback for an international tour, and that is, his heart.

In light of a few high profile deaths that have been potentially linked to the abuse of prescription drugs, it has pushed to the forefront an issue that has grasped America but is rarely talked about for how many lives it has impacted.
We tend to hear about painkiller addiction here and there, with the occasional celebrity coming out and admitting they have or have had a problem with prescription pain medications, but with the recent death of Michael Jackson being linked to possible pain med addiction, it has really forced a much needed dialogue about this epidemic.
Michael Jackson wasn’t the only one to have struggled with addiction to painkillers. Apparently Heath Ledger and Anna Nicole Smith, both deaths being attributed to deadly combinations of prescription medications, including antidepressants and pain medications, also were victims of this drug addiction for the new millennium.

Michael Jackson’s untimely death marks the fall of another megastar by medical drugs. The King of Pop, Michael Jackson and the King of Rock, Elvis Presley were both killed by combining medical drugs for pain and stress. Today, a superstar’s worst nightmare may be being cared for by a person licensed to prescribe killing medications.
Warning bells should be ringing again throughout Hollywood and entertainment capitals. Drug Rehabs for celebrities and TV shows haven’t yet convinced drug users that drugs aren’t safe to take, even if prescribed by personal physicians.
How Drugs Kill
Let’s keep things very simple. Most pain killing drugs designed to treat severe or chronic pain are also depressants. Many patients are also given a benzo or anti-anxiety drug or anti-depressant with drugs like Oxycontin, percocet, methadone, etc. Taking these drugs in combination with others can produce an increased physical depressant effect.

Michael Jackson, dead at age 50. Probable cause of death: medicine. Celebrities in the US are being killer faster by prescription drugs than their sometimes wild lifestyles. The list of major celebrities killed by medical drugs just in the last year: Michael Jackson, Heath Ledger and Anna Nicole Smith. Michael Jackson is the most notable celebrity to be killed recently by prescribed medication.
Taking Drugs Can Kill
Michael Jackson was taking pain killers and possibly other benzodiazepine drugs. Both drugs produce physical and mental depression. Drugs produce damaging effects.
The proper question to ask oneself before taking or accepting any drug for any situation is “How much damage am I willing to live or die with to get the desired effects I’m looking for?” Remember that those effects build on top of the earlier drug effect and creates a worsening condition, even if you can’t immediately perceive it.

Did Michael Jackson die from a prescription drug overdose? As I write this it is barely 12 hours since the death of the “King of Pop” and rumors are circulating that there is a strong possibility an overdose of Demerol, a prescription pain killer similar to morphine might have triggered or caused his cardiac arrest. While tragic, if true then Michael Jackson is just another in a long line of meaningless deaths at the hands of prescription medications…an epidemic that has gone on for far too long.
From Elvis Presley to Marilyn Monroe to Janis Joplin and now Michael, the list of victims from prescription drugs reads like a who’s who of the talented and successful. But what isn’t reported in the mass media are the millions of people that are killed from prescription drugs that aren’t rich and famous. These people listen to their doctors, believe the propaganda of the pharmaceutical companies and think they are doing ‘the right thing’ by buying often toxic man-made chemicals and poisons to treat what ails them.
The truth is that 90% of illnesses, pains and other complaints that people go to their doctors for are treatable just as easily and more effectively without using drugs than with them. Pharmaceutical companies have made billions and billions of dollars convincing people that they ‘need pills’ in order to deal with what are ordinary, simple health issues that the body will correct by itself without medication.
